Perga is today an archaeological site and a major tourist attraction which known as one of the richest cities in the ancient world famous for its temple of Artemis. It also is notable for being the home of the renowned ancient Greek mathematician Apollonius of Perga. The city itself was founded in around 1000 BC and after the collapse of the Roman Empire and it remained inhabited until Seljuk times, before being gradually abandoned.
